EdinburghCompact - In Equal Respect

The Compact says that public agencies will work with third sector bodies 'In Equal Respect' and employing the Compact Principles of transparency, accountability, clear communication, equity and respect.

WHAT is a Compact?

Webster defines it as 'an agreement between parties,' and as 'a covenant.' One might say a compact is a contract, or a promise.

The Edinburgh Compact Partnership is the primary context within which statutory partners come face to face with a range of voluntary and community sector (sometimes called the 'third sector') interests. The Partnership is responsible for taking forward the work of the Compact Strategy and its Action Plan.

One of the first actions the Compact embarked upon was profiling the third sector. Using the search bar at the top of this page, or by clicking the Search Directory button on the left hand side, you can find information on over 600 Edinburgh third sector organisations.

Compact Strategy	Compact Strategy The Compact Strategy seeks to move forward the shared vision of improving partnership working between all of Edinburgh's public and voluntary agencies. The strategy includes an Action Plan.
Volunteer Strategy	Volunteer Strategy Scotland's first City Volunteering Strategy, 'Inspiring Volunteering' aims to ensure that everyone in Edinburgh who wants to can be inspired to volunteer, and will have an excellent volunteering experience.
Social Enterprise	Social Enterprise Edinburgh's Social Enterprise Strategy seeks to support the development of 'businesses which trade for social purposes,' enhance their viability, and to develop further opportunities for social enterprises to flourish.
City Funding	City Funding A draft accord for investing in Edinburgh's third sector, our Funding Strategy recognises the need to move beyond traditional funding routes. Once agreed, Moving Forward: Together will foster the development of a more equal, more mature and more effective relationship between funders and third sector organisations.
