Introduction
A Voluntary Sector - City of Edinburgh Council partnership of learners and adult educators working together to improve the quality, range and status of learner-centred adult education in the City of Edinburgh.
Our Purpose
- To be a focus for knowledge and expertise
- To be a vehicle for consultation, monitoring and research
- To raise the profile of adult education
- To influence, initiate and develop adult education policy locally and nationally
- To undertake joint initiatives including training and conferences.
The EAEG is a partner/member of the Edinburgh Community Learning and Development Partnership which has overall responsibility for the City's Community Learning and Development Strategy and for taking forward work to progress the national priority - achievement through learning for adults.
Our Priorities in 2007
- To improve the profile of Adult Education in the new City of Edinburgh Council Children and Families Department
- To make existing structures work more effectively for adult education
- To broaden the current policy agenda for Adult Education
- To identify funding issues for Adult Education and bring these to the attention of policy makers.
Membership and Structure
Membership is open to:
- Adult learners/representatives from learner-led organisations
- Community based voluntary organisations delivering adult education in Edinburgh
- City-wide and national voluntary organisations delivering adult education in Edinburgh
- City-wide umbrella organisations concerned with adult education developments and delivery in Edinburgh
- CLD staff from the City of Edinburgh Council Children and Families Department.
- Other Council and Voluntary Sector services engaged in the development and delivery of adult education provision in the City.
A Core Group was formed in June 2006 to lead on strategic issues and determine priorities. The Core Group are planning an Edinburgh Adult Education Conference to be held in March 2007 in the City Chambers.
